The IDLab-Bioinformatics group engages in a blend of fundamental, applied, and industry-driven research, focusing on translating the latest advances in algorithms and artificial intelligence into innovative computational methods for bioinformatics. By integrating advanced statistics, AI, and data mining with relevant biological insights, the group addresses complex and underdetermined challenges in bioinformatics.
The group pioneered novel concepts in high performance genomics, network-based data interpretation, AI-based data-integration with applications spanning cancer research, microbial systems, plant biology, nanobody design, and digital pathology. In addition, they bring extensive experience in algorithm design, distributed-memory computing infrastructure, big data platforms, programming models, and advanced accelerator technologies, including Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), to manage large-scale bioinformatics workloads.
The group's international reputation in cancer genomics and bioinformatics is highlighted by invitations for keynote and invited lectures at prominent conferences, such as ISMB, ECCB, RECOMB, and EMBL-EBI.
